Aaliyah is DEAD! It's true Aaliyah the one and only female R'n'B singer is dead, she died in a plane crash on Saturday. Aaliyah, 22, was killed alongside nine members of her entourage, when their twin-engined Cessna crashed just seconds after taking off from Marsh Harbour airport in the Bahamas. All on-board were killed.
It has also emerged that the group were supposed to take a different flight to the doomed plane finally chosen, as investigations continue amid suggestions that the jet was overloaded with luggage.
Meanwhile, Craig Southerland, the vice-president of the plane company who flew Aaliyah down to the Bahamas last week, said they were expecting to complete the return journey, but never got the call.
We never heard from them. Whether they were unable to get in touch or what the details were, I don't know, said Southerland.
The group are believed to have taken a smaller plane, and an unnamed baggage attendant has claimed he told the pilot the aircraft was too heavy for a safe takeoff.
